The MiBi lab

The research group has a decennial experience in the investigation of the bacterial population and metabolites of the intestinal microbiota and have expertise in industrial microbiology and in bioreactor cultivation of anaerobic bacteria in batch and chemostat conditions.
The Microbial Biotechnology laboratory is affiliated at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. The group started his work in Modena in 2006 but his staff has a decennial experience in the investigation of the bacterial population and metabolites of the intestinal microbiota and have expertise in industrial microbiology and in bioreactor cultivation. The research groups are provided with seven laboratory-scale stirred tank bioreactors to perform fermentation experiments and are well equipped with the instrumentation to carry out proteomics, purification and characterization of proteins (2DE-MS, Akta System), molecular biology experiments, including analysis of genes, genomes, and transcripts (PFGE, DGGE, Q-PCR) and chemical analysis (UV-VIS, HPLC-RID, HPLC-MS, GC-MS, ESI ION-TRAP MS). In the Department of Chemistry (our lab or LADAC), or at the Inter-Department Center for Great Instrumentations (CIGS), the research group has access to several instrumentations and facilities for chemical, structural, and biological investigation (ICP, fluorimeter, MALDI-TOF, NMR, CLSM).
